Does running make your pelvic floor muscles better or worse?

Asked by julie over 2 years ago

Our expert answered:

Running often triggers light bladder loss because the impact of running places extra pressure on your pelvic floor muscles.

However, this should not stop you from running. Running has many health benefits including being extremely beneficial for your heart and muscles. Running itself will not cause your pelvic floor muscles to become worse.

To prevent bladder loss, it is important to improve your pelvic floor muscles by doing activities such as pilates or other pelvic floor exercises in conjuction with your running program.

Whilst running, you can also focus on squeezing and pulling up your pelvic floor muscles to help improve the condition.
