I had a baby at 19, natural birth. Since having my son I have noticed I "suck" air into my vagina during intercourse, it also happens if I lay on my back and lift my pelvis. Will pelvic floor exercises tighten my vaginal walls at all and stop this "air"?
I suffer from, what I call, "air". I had a baby at 19, it was a natural, uncomplicated, reasonably quick birth. Since having my son I experience air being sucked into my vagina during intercourse, it also happens when I lay on my back and lift my pelvis into the air. This is very embarrassing for me and is ruining my sexual relationship with my partner because I do not want to have sex due to my issue. Will constant pelvic floor excercises help to tighten my vagina and stop this air being sucked in? And should I not have intercourse for a certain amount of time to help with the tightening? I do not suffer any bladder weakness at all.
Our expert answered:
Hello Charlotte,
Pelvic Floor Exercises will certainly assist with the tightening of the Pelvic Floor Muscles and this form of treatment is very useful in cases of Urinary Stress Incontinence.
You state that you do not suffer from Urinary incontinence and that the "air " being sucked into your Vagina is the issue.
Unfortunately we are not able to comment in this matter but would recommend that you discuss this with your GP so you can undergo a thorough assessment of the Pelvic Floor as well as the Vaginal wall/muscles.
