I have a really wide vagina; will pelvic floor exercises really work?

I had children very young and in the past year I have lost my firmness, why? How? It’s really wide inside. How tight can I get my vagina? I don’t have any sort of bladder problems.

Our expert answered:

Having and delivering babies vaginally will stretch the vaginal wall; this is to be expected as the size of a baby is much larger than the vaginal passage!

Yes, doing pelvic floor exercises can encourage firmness of the vaginal wall, as well as strengthening the pelvic floor muscles – however note that this will take time. It is important that you attend to doing pelvic floor muscles as much as you can, on an ongoing basis.

On the Poise website, we have lots of information about the pelvic floor muscle and how to do pelvic floor exercises, including an interactive guide. Visit http://www.poise.com.au/bladder-control/pelvic-floor-exercise/
