I've had 4 natural full term births. I'm 46 and i have leakage when coughing. Why do i have poor bladder control during sex and orgasm?

Asked by karyne about 1 year ago

Our expert answered:

Hello Karyne,
Bladder control issues are very common with women who have had children as the pelvic floor muscles that sit under your bladder and around your urinary tract are weaken due to child birth. Many women can regain their bladder control by measures such as pelvic floor muscle exercises. The Poise website has lots of information about how to do pelvic floor exercises, including an interactive guide. Visit http://www.poise.com.au/bladder-control/pelvic-floor-exercise/

Before having sex, make sure to go to the toilet to fully empty your bladder. This may prevent any urine leakage during sex. While you work on strengthening your pelvic floor muscles, consider other ways to have sexual pleasure aside from intercourse.
