If I sneeze or cough immediately after emptying my bladder, within seconds of standing up, I still leak. Is my bladder not emptying properly or is this normal? Where is all that wee coming from?

I have had stress incontinence for quite a few years. I have never had children but have always been overweight.

Our expert answered:

Dear Penny,
Based on your description above, it sounds like you have symptoms of overflow incontinence. Overflow Incontinence, is when you continuously leak small trickling amounts of urine and you feel you never completely empty your bladder.
There's a whole section on the Poise website dedicated to overflow incontinence. Read up here on what it is, what causes it and what can be done to treat it.

In summary book a visit with your GP or local continence advisor who can make a diagnosis and recommend a treatment plan to get you back to normal.
