Is there a product that a pregnant woman could wear leading up to the due date in case of waters breaking?
This is really just a precautionary measure, but this is my first pregnancy and I'm not sure what to expect if my waters break while I'm out of the house/hospital. Personally, I believe I'd feel most comfortable wearing a small, discrete liner, but at the same time I also need to know that the product I chose to wear will actually hold the amount of liquid associated with the waters breaking until I can get myself to a toilet etc..
Our expert answered:
Dear OL,
Congratulations on your preganancy. It can be difficult to know how much fluid will be lost at the time of the waters breaking, and for many women, they in fact go into labour without their waters breaking. Normally it is not such a huge gush but more that your underwear will be wet.
If you are concerned, you could try the Poise Ultrathins Super pad instead of the liner. Poise pads have a special ABSORB-LOC core so they absorb about three times more fluid than your regular sanitary pads. It is also very thin and discreet.
Good luck!
