Hi, Im 11 years old and I have never had my period, but I have had discharge for about 5 or 6 months and I have started to get a few pubic hairs. How far off do you think my first period would be? P.S I sometimes have LBL

Im 12 in about 3 months and my mum started her period just before she turned 12....And, Im not sure but I keep getting these bad pains to the side of my lower belly, are these period cramps and is it possible to get then before your actual period starts?

Our expert answered:

Hello Jessica,
Most girls get their first period between the ages of 9 and 16. It follows the development of breasts, hips, waist and pubic hair. If you’ve gone through most of those changes, your first period is on its way. Genetics also plays a role. Some of the discharge you are getting might not be LBL. It might only be some fluid that you might experience before your menstrual period. I recommend you keep an eye wait for 28 next days and if you do not get your first period, I recommend your contact your GP.
