I'm 16 and i have an extreme case of LBL. I just cant stop leaking! It is horrible. I can't last an hour at school without needing to go to the bathroom. Is there anything I can do? Is this normal?
Our expert answered:
Hello Lily,
What you're experiencing is a not uncommon among teenagers. Although LBL usually occurs with older women, there are many cases with teenagers experiencing the issue.
Your LBL could be caused by a number of factors such as a urinary tract infection (UTI), side effect from medication and obesity. If weak pelvic floor muscles runs in the family, there is a high chance you may have them as well.
Don't fret though, as LBL can be cured and is always manageable. I would suggest you seek the advice of your GP as he/she may check to see if there is an underlying cause and then suggest treatment.
One of the treatments can be as simple as doing Pelvic Floor Exercises (muscles in the Pelvic Region) which he may refer you to either a Physiotherapist or a Continence Advisor at your Local Community Health Centre.
