My daughter is 11 years old and is suffring of LBL. Is this normal?
Our expert answered:
Hello Sarah,
Whilst LBL is usually more prevalent in older women, there are many cases where young girls and young women have LBL. The most notable is when young girls laugh and experience leakage afterwards. This is known as 'giggle incontinence' where extra strain is strain put on the bladder when the pelvic floor muscles are contracted when laughing, sneezing, coughing etc. In most situations this is not a serious problem and can be treated by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles via Kegel/pelvic floor exercises.
Best bet would be to discuss this issue with your doctor. They will be able to recommend the most appropriate course of action for your daughter.
